Exhibited at the Design Museum during "the Everyday Martian" exhibition

On Mars, everything is different and all resources are precious, even human waste. TAPOO (Technologies of Alternative Planetary Orificial Output) speculates on the technologies needed for a toilet and material potential of human waste. After the output is sucked out by vacuum, a specially designed algorithm determines the quality of the human's waste and segregates it to be used either for food production, energy creation or as building material.

A scenario where toilets take on a whole new dimension: a workshop is held for newcomers on Mars to learn how to use this unusual toilet.

Urine and faeces are reused for several different purposes:

- faeces as compost for growing plants

- as a material, in particular for the manufacture of the toilet bowl, a mixture of Martian ceramic and excrement (inspired by the MerdaCotta)

- urine is reused for flushing the toilet
